founded in 1986 by a couple of punkers,
elephant stew wreck chords has come a
long way since its humble beginnings.
the label had been home to numerous
influential punk bands in the '80s and
'90s, but it really blew up in 2000 when
it was passed on to the couple's son,
who co-owns it with a couple of friends.
they're one of the most well-known
record labels out there today, and it's
an honor for any band to be signed to
it, and for anyone aspiring to make it
in the biz to intern there. the co-owners
have formed a couple of sub-labels--
mantra recordings and runaway records--
in an effort to sign and expose other
bands who did not quite fit in, musically,
with those on elephant stew, and both
are just as prestigious to be signed to.
kids would kill to get in with these labels.
